Material and function
EPDM is an elastomer used for outdoor and water-contact sealing. Its weathering, ozone and water resistance are useful around exposed interfaces. Mineral oils and fuels generally require a different material.

Manufacturing and customization
O-rings are formed and cured from a selected elastomer compound. Dimensions, cross-section, hardness and finishing are selected for the gland, contact medium and assembly.
Design considerations
Select the material grade for contact media, operating temperature and mechanical loading. Include the installed compression, mating surfaces and expected service conditions when reviewing the component. Confirm performance using the selected compound and a representative sample.
